Tips to retire in Thailand

Nestled in the Gulf of Thailand, Koh Samui is part of the Ang Thong National Marine Park. The island is renowned for its scenery as well as its infrastructure.

Living in a villa in Koh Samui is about choosing a quieter, more private island than Phuket. Here, there are only low density residences and quality villas with materials and style that respect the environment and landscapes. Another important asset: Koh Samui is home to a large expatriate community.

A TRADITIONAL PRESERVED ISLAND

Koh Samui was still only a sparsely inhabited and totally preserved fishermen’s island until the first tourists arrived in 1980. Its development is therefore recent and controlled. Thus, anyone dreaming of a vacation or expatriation with a beautiful landscape, quiet and far from the crowd, will be welcome on the island.

An island of history and culture

Koh Samui is not just a postcard island of beautiful scenery. The Buddhist culture is well present and the temples are open to people wishing to recharge their batteries. The Big Buddha in particular, next to the airport, is one of the main points of interest on the island.

JUNGLES AND TURQUOISE WATERS

The island is home to a large mountainous jungle in its center, as well as several fine sandy beaches and turquoise waters renowned for their corals. This allows a good diversity in terms of landscapes and activities. Sports enthusiasts will have a wide choice between diving, surfing, hiking, golfing, even extreme sports like paragliding.

In parallel, all visitors will be able to enjoy the quality infrastructure of the island: massage, SPA, renowned restaurants and bars… Not to mention the beaches and private pool villas on Koh Samui.

INTERNATIONAL HOTELS AND SCHOOLS

Prospective expats will be interested in the infrastructure needed to live year-round on Koh Samui. The island is home to 5 international hospitals including the renowned Bangkok Hospital near Chaweng Beach. Expatriate children can attend several different international schools.
